07:03 AM EDT, 07/07/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Apple ( AAPL ) has filed an appeal against a 500 million-euro ($586.3 million) fine imposed by the European Commission for allegedly violating the European Union's Digital Markets Act, multiple media outlets reported Monday.
The company argued the penalty is "unprecedented" and that the regulator's mandated App Store changes are "unfairly targeting Apple ( AAPL )," according to statements cited by media outlets.
The European Commission announced the fine in April, accusing Apple ( AAPL ) of imposing technical and commercial restrictions that prevented developers from steering users to alternative payment methods outside the App Store.
In its decision, the European Commission ordered Apple ( AAPL ) to remove the restrictions and refrain from perpetuating the non-compliant conduct.
Apple ( AAPL ) did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
