07:33 AM EDT, 05/21/2024 (MT Newswires) -- ASML Holding ( ASML ) and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing ( TSM ) assured they have measures in place to disable their advanced chipmaking machines in case China invades Taiwan, Bloomberg reported on Tuesday, citing people familiar with the matter.
The assurance was made after US government officials expressed concerns to their Dutch and Taiwanese counterparts about the risks, the report said, citing two of the people.
The Netherlands-based ASML ( ASML ), which has extreme ultraviolet machines used to produce microchips with artificial intelligence and military applications, reassured Dutch government officials it can remotely shut off the machines, the report said, citing two sources. The Netherlands has run simulations of an invasion to better assess the risks, according to the report.
Taiwan Semiconductor is ASML's ( ASML ) largest client for these EUV machines, Bloomberg said.
ASML ( ASML ) could not be reached while Taiwan Semiconductor did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
