09:12 AM EDT, 05/09/2024 (MT Newswires) -- The Science Based Targets initiative, a nonprofit backed by the UN that audits companies' emission-reduction plans, has found that carbon credits used by companies to offset greenhouse-gas emissions are largely ineffective, Reuters reported Thursday, citing a confidential preliminary draft it reviewed.

Voluntary carbon offsets are used by some of the biggest companies in the world, including Microsoft ( MSFT ) , Salesforce ( CRM ) and Amazon.com ( AMZN ) , Reuters reported.
