11:51 AM EDT, 10/25/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Meta Platforms ( META ) has signed a multiyear agreement that will allow it to use Thomson Reuters' ( TRI ) news content to respond to user prompts in Meta AI chatbot, Axios reported Friday, citing unnamed sources familiar with the deal.

Meta's news deal with Reuters is the first such agreement for the Facebook parent, according to the report.

A source reportedly said that Reuters will get paid for access to its news.

"We're always iterating and working to improve our products, and through Meta's partnership with Reuters, Meta AI can respond to news-related questions with summaries and links to Reuters content," a Meta spokesperson said in a statement emailed to MT Newswires. "While most people use Meta AI for creative tasks, deep dives on new topics or how-to assistance, this partnership will help ensure a more useful experience for those seeking information on current events."

Reuters did not immediately respond to requests for comment from MT Newswires.
