02:20 PM EDT, 09/11/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Uber Technologies ( UBER ) was sued by the US Department of Justice over claims that it discriminates against people with physical disabilities, Bloomberg reported Thursday.
The US Justice Department's civil rights unit filed a lawsuit Thursday in a California federal court, alleging that Uber ( UBER ) drivers frequently refuse to accommodate riders with service animals or stowable wheelchairs, according to the report.
The DOJ mentioned in the lawsuit that after it notified Uber ( UBER ) of its probe, the company rolled out an optional self-identification feature for riders to disclose to a driver they will be traveling with a service animal, according to Bloomberg.
Uber ( UBER ) did not immediately respond to a request for comment from MT Newswires.
