Market Chatter: US May Require Annual Chip Supply Approvals for Samsung, SK Hynix in China
Sep 8, 2025 4:31 AM

07:06 AM EDT, 09/08/2025 (MT Newswires) -- The US is weighing a plan that may require Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix to seek yearly approvals for shipments of chipmaking equipment and materials to their factories in China, Bloomberg reported on Monday, citing people familiar with the matter.

The plan would replace indefinite authorizations set to expire at end of 2025 and require the companies to specify exact quantities of restricted gear, parts and materials, the report said.

The approach is aimed at maintaining operations at the facilities without allowing capacity upgrades or expansions, Bloomberg reported.

Samsung, SK Hynix, and US Commerce Department's Bureau of Industry and Security did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' requests for comment.
