10:43 AM EST, 12/09/2025 (MT Newswires) -- MDA Space ( MDALF ) Tuesday said it signed a strategic partnership agreement with the Government of Canada and Telesat Corporation ( TSAT ) to develop and deliver military satellite communications (MILSATCOM) capabilities.
The company said that the partnership is part of the Enhanced Satellite Communication Project - Polar (ESCP-P), one of the key procurements being led by Canada's newly formed Defence Investment Agency (DIA).
"A longstanding program of record, ESCP-P will significantly enhance the ability of the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) and the broader Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) to conduct sovereignty operations in the Arctic, supporting the defence of Canada and North America," noted the company.
The company said that the project will deliver secure wideband and narrowband satellite communications capabilities that are "essential to fulfilling the CAF's continental defence mandate."
Telesat ( TSAT ), in a separate release noted that, the ESCP-P project represents "a multi-billion dollar investment by Canada and will act as a catalyst for significant investment, job creation and economic growth in Canada through its world-class space supply chain."

MDA Space's ( MDALF ) shares were last seen up 6.8% to $26.09, while Telesat's ( TSAT ) shares were last seen up 10.2% to $44.18 on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
