07:05 AM EDT, 10/10/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Meta Platforms ( META ) has agreed to adopt measures asked by Germany's Federal Cartel Office, providing users with "significantly improved" options over the use of their Facebook data, the regulator said Thursday.
The Bundeskartellamt stopped Facebook from integrating users' personal data from different sources without their permission in February 2019, the regulator added.
Before the Bundeskartellamt's decision, Facebook could collect users' data from other sources including Instagram and third-party apps.
Meta has agreed to adopt measures including the introduction of an Accounts Center, introducing "cookie" settings, special exceptions for Facebook login, and others, the regulator said.
"Altogether, these tools give users much greater control over the extent to which personal data from other Meta services and third-party apps and websites are linked to their Facebook account," President of the Bundeskartellamt Andreas Mundt said.
A Meta spokesperson told MT Newswires in an email that the company welcomes the agreement.
