12:20 PM EST, 02/10/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Microsoft ( MSFT ) is exploring designing data centers using high-temperature superconductors to boost efficiency.
The superconductors may strengthen electrical grids and lower the impact of data centers on nearby communities, Alistair Speirs, general manager of Microsoft's ( MSFT ) Global Infrastructure Marketing, said Tuesday in a blog post.
Inside data centers, smaller cables would enable further flexibility in the design of electrical rooms and hardware, while outside the data center, Microsoft ( MSFT ) is considering working with power-infrastructure partners to build long-distance power lines using high-temperature superconductors, the post said.
