Switzerland’s Zurich Airport International today signed an agreement with the Yamuna International Airport to kickstart work on the project.
The airport is to be developed through public-private partnership model and the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority will be the implementing agency on behalf of the UP government.
The first phase of the airport is to be constructed by 2024. It will be spread over 5000 hectre and will be the biggest in India with 8 runways. It is estimated to cater to 70 million passengers annually by 2040-2050.
In an interview with CNBC-TV18, Daniel Bircher, CMD of Delhi Noida International Airport said Jewar will be India’s "first digital airport".
