Update: Market Chatter: Google's Waymo Pauses Services in Los Angeles Due to Protests
Jun 9, 2025 12:12 PM

02:57 PM EDT, 06/09/2025 (MT Newswires) -- (Updates with Waymo comments in the fourth paragraph.)

Waymo, which is owned by Alphabet's (GOOG, GOOGL) Google ( GOOG ), has paused its rides in downtown Los Angeles after multiple vehicles were damaged due to the ongoing protests, NBC News reported Monday.

The autonomous driving technology company provides driverless rides from Santa Monica to Marina del Rey and east to downtown along the 10 Freeway, the news report said.

"We will not be serving any rides in the protest area until it is deemed safe," a Waymo spokesperson was quoted as saying.

"Waymo is still operating in Los Angeles, however, out of an abundance of caution given the recent activity, we removed vehicles from Downtown Los Angeles and will not be serving that specific area of LA at the moment," a Waymo representative told MT Newswires.
