Update: US Solar Manufacturers Petition Regulators to Impose Sanctions on Southeast Asian Imports
Apr 24, 2024 8:41 AM

11:15 AM EDT, 04/24/2024 (MT Newswires) -- (Updates with additional details in the second paragraph and onwards)

First Solar ( FSLR ) and six other US solar manufacturers filed petitions with two US regulatory agencies to investigate potentially illegal trade practices by Cambodia, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam.

The petitions were filed with the US International Trade Commission and Department of Commerce, the law firm Wiley Rein said Wednesday. The other petitioners include Convalt Energy, Meyer Burger, Mission Solar, Qcells, REC Silicon and Swift Solar, according to the law firm

The alleged dumping and subsidizing of Southeast Asian products to evade US trade rules are causing a surplus of underpriced solar panels, the firm said.

The conduct undermines equitable competition vital for US solar manufacturers and imperils plans for a domestic solar manufacturing supply chain to reduce dependence on Chinese producers, Wiley Rein said.
