11:28 AM EDT, 05/16/2025 (MT Newswires) -- (Updates throughout with company response.)
Verizon Communications ( VZ ) confirmed to MT Newswires Friday it is ending its diversity, equity and inclusion programs as it seeks US Federal Communications Commission approval for its acquisition of Frontier Communications (FYBR).
Verizon said it is deleting its "Diversity and Inclusion" website and removing references to DEI from employee training while implementing changes to hiring, career development, and corporate sponsorship practices, according to a letter sent to FCC chair Brendan Carr shared with MT Newswires.
The company said it will also stop maintaining workforce diversity goals and eliminate a component of the management compensation plan linked to increasing the representation of women and minorities in its US workforce.
The letter is in response to Carr signaling earlier he was initiating a probe into Verizon's DEI programs, which could be a factor in the Frontier acquisition deal.
Verizon highlighted that all DEI-related changes will also apply to Frontier upon the close of its proposed acquisition.
