US to Impose 25% Tariffs and Penalties on Imports from India Starting Aug. 1, President Trump Says in Truth Social Post
Jul 30, 2025 6:19 AM

08:59 AM EDT, 07/30/2025 (MT Newswires) -- The US will impose 25% tariffs on goods imported from India from Aug. 1, President Donald Trump said Wednesday.

Trump, in a social media post on his Truth Social account, further said there will be an added penalty on India's imports as they have been buying military equipment and energy from Russia, when the world is putting in efforts to stop the war against Ukraine.

He said that while India is a friend of the US, there has been 'relatively little business because their tariffs are far too high, among the highest in the World.'

Trump added that India has 'the most strenuous and obnoxious non-monetary Trade Barriers of any country.'
