09:01 AM EDT, 05/15/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Walgreens Boots Alliance ( WBA ) said Wednesday it will begin selling emergency opioid overdose medicine over-the-counter.

Walgreens Brand Naloxone HCI Nasal Spray will retail for about $35 and can reverse heroin, fentanyl, or prescription opioid overdoses. The drug is already available online and will be stocked in its stores' pain medication aisles by the end of May, the company said.

Naloxone quickly blocks the effects of opioids, preventing overdoses leading to fatalities, the company said.
