Will government extend MSME credit guarantee scheme?
Oct 1, 2020 3:01 PM

The Narendra Modi government's Rs 3-lakh crore Emergency Credit Line Guarantee Scheme (ECLGS) for the MSME sector may not be fully utilised by the end of October when the scheme is scheduled to end.

According to multiple people familiar with the development, the government will therefore take a call on whether to extend the ECLGS scheme further.

The scheme is the biggest fiscal component of the Rs 20-lakh crore Aatmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan package, announced by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in May to mitigate the distress caused by the lockdown due to COVID-19 by providing credit to different sectors, especially micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
