Exchange-Traded Funds Higher, US Equities Mixed After Friday's Midday Trading

01:12 PM EDT, 10/25/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Broad Market Indicators

Broad-market exchange-traded funds IWM and IVV were higher. Actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) was 1.4% higher.

US equity indexes were mixed after midday on Friday amid consolidation in government bond yields and stronger-than-expected macroeconomic data ahead of big technology earnings next week.

Energy

iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) rose 0.1% and Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) was fractionally lower.

Technology

Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) rose 1.3%; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) were adding 1.4% each.

SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) was 2.6% higher, and iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) gained 2.3%.

Financial

Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) dipped 0.8%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) lost 2.5%, and its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) rose 2.4%.

Commodities

Crude oil was up 2.2%; United States Oil Fund (USO) rose 1.6%. Natural gas shed 0.2%, and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) dropped 0.7%.

Gold was up 0.1% on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) rose 0.1%. Silver shed 0.1%, while iShares Silver Trust (SLV) retreated less than 0.1%.

Consumer

Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) was down 0.3%; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) were lower.

Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) edged 0.7% higher; retail fund VanEck Vectors Retail ETF (RTH) rose 0.6% while SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) added 0.3%.

Health Care

Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) fell 0.2%; iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) were lower. iShares NASDAQ Biotechnology ETF (IBB) was up 0.7%.

Industrial

Select Sector SPDR-Industrial (XLI), Vanguard Industrials (VIS) and iShares US Industrials (IYJ) were fractionally lower.
