Indian shares ended lower on Tuesday, dragged down by banks and consumer stocks, as the rupee extended declines to a record low and oil prices rose sharply.

The rupee, which tumbled to a record low of 71.54 on the dollar on Tuesday, is Asia’s worst performing currency so far this year.
The broader Nifty fell 0.54 percent to 11,520.30, while the Sensex ended 0.4 percent lower at 38,157.92.

TCS: India's top IT firm, Tata Consultancy Services, on Tuesday crossed Rs 8 lakh crore market capitalisation, benefiting from the steep fall in the rupee against the dollar. TCS shares ended at Rs 2,093.20, higher by 1.86 percent. It also hit a fresh high of Rs 2,100 in intraday trade.
Balkrisha Industries: Shares were under pressure for the second day with the stock down 10 percent in two sessions after announcing big capex plans. HSBC downgraded the stock to 'Hold' from 'Buy', says the new capex plan could be return-dilutive. It quoted at Rs 1,177 at close, dipping 6.84 percent, but recovering from intraday low of Rs 1,169.40.
Infosys: Shares touched lifetime high of Rs 747.55 on weak rupee and trading ex-bonus from today. It settled at Rs 735.65, higher by 2.64 percent at close.
Beardsell: Shares rose over 13 percent on Tuesday after the company said it has received an order worth Rs 250 million from the Pharmaceuticals Fund and Supply Agency, an Ethiopian government agency. It ended marginally up by 0.14 percent in the end at Rs 36.05.
Merck: Stock closed five percent lower at Rs 3,228.25, losing Rs 169.75 after Competition Commission of India (CCI) approved the acquisition of 51.8 percent stake in the company by Procter & Gamble Overseas.
Hathway Cable & Datacom: Shares ended 10.35 percent higher at Rs 20.25. The stock jumped over 15 percent after company entered into a partnership with Netflix to offer video streaming services to its subscribers.
Reliance Home Finance: The ADAG company scrip rose six percent to hit their one-month high of Rs 68.40 after the company said it's in talks with overseas institutional investors to sell a stake. Shares quoted at Rs 64.90, up by 0.54 percent at close.
Larsen & Toubro Infotech: Stock ended at Rs 1,860, up by 5.01 percent, or adding Rs 88.80 in value. It touched an intraday high of Rs 1,920.
Crompton Greaves Consumer Electricals: Shares ended at Rs 233.80, dipping by 6.22 percent. It slipped off from an opening high of Rs 251.25 to a low of Rs 232 in intraday trade.
Hindustan Unilever: Shares ended 2.80 percent lower at Rs 1651.40, losing Rs 47.65. Along with ITC, Hindustan Unilever was top drag on consumer indices.
