Assembly elections 2018: Is this a referendum on Modi government?

After an intense campaign by contesting parties, Telangana and Rajasthan are going to the polling station on Friday.

Telangana is witnessing a triangular contest with the Congress-led alliance, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) and the BJP fighting for the pride in the youngest state of India.

Over 2.8 crore electorates are eligible to exercise their franchise in the state, which has a total of 32,815 polling stations in 119 assembly constituencies.

In Rajasthan, the BJP and the Congress are the main contenders with the former trying to fight the anti-incumbency. Polling will take place on 51,965 polling stations in 199 constituencies. A total of 2, 274 candidates will be fighting the elections this year.

Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Mizoram have already voted and the counting of votes would be taken up on December 11.

in what could be a virtual semi-final to the 2019 Lok Sabha elections all parties are fighting it out to gain the confidence before the final.

The Congress, which is ruling in Mizoram, is trying to wrest power from the BJP in Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. The TRS is the incumbent in Telangana.

The term of the Madhya Pradesh assembly is ending on January 7, Rajasthan on January 20, Chhattisgarh of January 5 and Mizoram on December 15.
