BJP chief Nadda holds roadshow in Tamil Nadu

BJP national president J P Nadda held a roadshow here on Friday and sought votes for his party candidate from Harbour constituency, Vinoj P Selvam for the April 6 Assembly polls. 18% candidates contesting in phase-3 Assam polls declared criminal cases against themselves: ADR

Out of the 337 candidates contesting in the third phase of the Assam Assembly polls this year, 18 per cent have declared criminal cases against themselves, according to a report by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR). The Assam Election Watch and the ADR have analysed the selfsworn affidavits of all the 337 candidates who are contesting in polls. "Out of the 337 candidates analysed, 60 (18 percent) candidates have declared criminal cases against themselves and 45 (13 percent) have declared serious criminal cases against themselves," the ADR said.

HC seeks EC view on keeping in abeyance RS polls in Kerala

The Kerala High Court on Friday sought the views of the Election Commission on a plea by the State Legislative Assembly, challenging the Election Commission's decision to keep in abeyance proceedings for the proposed election to three vacancies from the state in the Rajya Sabha. Considering the plea filed by the secretary of the Kerala Legislative Assembly, challenging the poll panel's act, the Court directed the EC to respond to the plea by next Monday.

The Madras High Court on Friday said a serious investigation was required into the allegations that the Puducherry unit of the BJP had access to voters' Aadhaar details and asked the Election Commission if the April 6 polls in the Union Territory could be deferred till completion of probe. The commission submitted that polls cannot be deferred on mere allegations but informed the court that a showcause notice has been issued to the BJP.
