Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Monday urged the people of Kerala to vote for the United Democratic Front (UDF) alliance in the Assembly polls and "defeat the divisive forces who polarise the society, and reject authoritarian leaders". Kerala is all set to go to polls on Tuesday with 2.74 crore voters eligible to exercise their franchise and decide the fate of 957 candidates in 140 Assembly constituencies across the state.

BJP seeks action against Mamata Banerjee for asking Muslims to vote for TMC

The BJP on Monday approached the Election Commission seeking action against Wst Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee alleging that she has violated Representation of the People's Act by asking Muslims to come together and vote for her party TMC in the state assembly polls. A BJP leaders' delegation, including Union minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, party's national secretary Sunil Deodhar, its leader GVL Narasimha Rao, met top officials of the poll panel here and submitted a memorandum demanding action against Banerjee and her party.

Talking to reporters after the meeting, Naqvi said that in an election speech TMC chief Mamata Banerjee appealed to Muslim voters not to let their votes be split among different parties and asked them to cast their votes en-bloc to her party. "She has not only violated the essentials of the Model Code of Conduct by making such remarks but this is also a criminal violation of the Representation of People Act, 1951. The poll panel should initiate action against Mamata Banerjee and her party for this violation," Naqvi said.

Take money being distributed by BJP and vote for TMC : Abhishek Banerjee tells people

Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee on Monday accused the BJP of distributing cash for votes in West Bengal and asked the people to accept the money but exercise their ballot for TMC instead. There will be anarchy in the state if the saffron party assumes power in West Bengal, Banerjee cautioned the voters.

"BJP is distributing money to the people and asking them to cast their votes for the party. I ask you (the people) to accept the money and not return it, but cast your votes for the smaller flower, referring to the grass flower which is the symbol of TMC and the much larger lotus, the emblem of the saffron party. It's your money. The money is from the tax you have paid to the government," Banerjee said addressing different rallies held in Hooghly and Howrah districts in support of party candidates contesting for the phase four of polling slated for April 10.
