Ajay Arjun Singh of Congress is trailing Sharadendu Tiwari of BJP by 5,983 votes in the Churhat constituency of Madhya Pradesh (MP).

Tiwari has received 26,836 votes so far, while Singh has secured 20,853 at 4.40 pm, according to information trickling out of the Election Commission.

Churhat constituency recorded a 68.3 percent voter turnout where voting was held on November 28.

Singh, the incumbent MLA, is the son of former MP CM and former union HRD minister Arjun Singh. He was first elected as MLA in 1985. In 2011, Singh was elected as the leader of the opposition by Congress in the MP legislative assembly.

Madhya Pradesh is one of the five states where elections were held between November 12 and December 7.

These polls are seen as a bellwether of the 2019 general elections.
