Congress president Rahul Gandhi is adamant on quitting the top post and has asked the party to find a replacement, sources told CNBC-TV18 on Monday.
His decision comes after the Congress won only 52 seats in the recently concluded Lok Sabha polls. The Narendra Modi-led BJP won 303 seats, giving the party an absolute majority to form the government.
According to the sources, Rahul Gandhi had offered to resign from the post of the party president during the Congress Working Committee meeting on Saturday.
The party, however, had clarified that there was no such offer.
