Sonia Gandhi's key political aide and one of the most influential leaders in the Congress, Ahmed Patel has said that the party will soon take a decision on fielding Priyanka Gandhi. Patel spoke exclusively to CNBC TV18's Parikshit Luthra on the campaign trail in Bahruch, Gujarat.

“I can assure you that we will win more than 12 seats, between 12 and 15 seats,” Patel said.

Talking about defections in the BJP, Patel said, “It is engineering by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). I don’t want to allege anyone but at the same time, I would like to ask them if it is correct in the democratic process to ask the MLA to resign and on the same day offer them the ministry seat and appoint them as a minister. I think the people of Gujarat will teach them a lesson for what they did.”

Speaking about Priyanka Gandhi contesting elections, Patel said, “She may contest, she may not and ultimately the decision will be taken after the consultation of the party. I don’t want to comment anything but she herself has said she may contest.”
