Demonetisation was ineffective in tackling misuse of black money during polls, says former CEC OP Rawat
Dec 3, 2018 12:11 PM

Former Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) OP Rawat on Monday said demonetisation has proved ineffective in tackling misuse of black money during polls.

Two days after his retirement, Rawat said demonetisation didn’t reduce the use of misuse of black money in elections but, in fact, in some states more seizures were reported.

"Cash, freebies and liquor seizure alone is not a comprehensive indicator of whether abuse of money in elections is on the same level or is rising or is going down," Rawat told CNBC-TV18.

Immediately after demonetisation there were five state elections and even at that time the commission said there has been no impact of demonetisation, he added.
