Democrat Eric Adams defeats Republican Curtis Sliwa for New York mayor, must steer a damaged city out of pandemic.

According to The New York Times, Eric Adams was elected as the second Black mayor in New York City's history. Adams now has the burden on him to guide the city's recovery from the pandemic.

Adams, the Brooklyn Borough president and a former New York City police captain, was widely expected to win the November 2 election.
