Terror group Jaish-e-Mohammed was issuing public threats and hiring new recruits, said Praveen Swami, senior journalist of Firstpost, after India confirmed that it carried out strikes in JeM camps in Pakistan on Tuesday.

“This camp has been running for years. It has trained hundreds if not thousands of fighters. In interrogation after interrogation both in the United Kingdom, in the United States and in India, terrorist have revealed they were trained there. It has been a place of great regional and global threat,” said Swami.

He further said that the decision to target it was taken because of intelligence reports claiming that there was large assembly of undertraining terrorists at that location.

Foreign secretary Vijay Gokhale, in a media briefing, after India carried out the strikes in Pakistan’s Balakot late in the night, said that the attack on terror camps was not in retaliation to Pulwama but was a pre-emptive strike as JeM was planning more attacks on the country.

Reports on Tuesday morning claimed that 12 Mirage 2000 Indian Fighter jets dropped 1,000 kg of bombs on the said terror camps and the casualties from the operation stood between 200 and 300.

According to Swami, Balakot camp is away from civilian habitation.

Swami further said that Pakistan's economy might not be able to support a war situation currently.
