Before that, in the 2011 elections, the seat was held by M. Vaithianathan of AINRC.

In the 2016 assembly polls, V.P. Sivakolundhu garnered 12144 votes, securing over 46.92 percent of the vote share, and winning the seat by a margin of 6449 votes.

In percentage terms, the victory margin was 24.92 percent.

The constituency polled 25898 votes in the 2016 Puducherry assembly polls with a voter turnout of 83.74 percent.
