Congress president Rahul Gandhi once again questioned the usage of EVMs for polling. Addressing the media, he said, " As far as the EVMs are concerned, there are issues with them, universally. If the people in the country are uncomfortable with the EVM, then it's a big issue which needs to be addressed."

"The central issue of EVM is still there, if the chip is manipulated you can affect the entire voting system, that's not possible with manual voting. This is a question that has been answered in the US and other countries, where they've said that we don't want an EVM," he said.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress are in a close fight in Madhya Pradesh as trends in 226 out of the total 230 Assembly seats showed the opposition party having a slight edge over the ruling faction.

At 17:38 pm, the Congress was leading in 110 seats, while the BJP was ahead in 110 constituencies. Besides, Mayawati's Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) was leading in four seats, while the Samajwadi Party (SP) was ahead in one. Independents were also leading in two seats in Madhya Pradesh.

The Samajwadi Party, which is leading in one seat, has offered support to the Congress, if it fall short of the majority mark.

As per News18 trends as of 6 pm, the Congress was head in 111 seats, while the BJP was gaining in 109 seats.
