Mizoram Assembly Election 2018 results: Prominent winners and losers

The Mizo National Front (MNF) returned to power in Mizoram after 10 years on Tuesday, capturing 26 seats in the 40-member assembly by defeating the Congress in its last bastion in the northeast.

According to media reports, rebel-turned-politician Zoramthanga is likely to be the next chief minister of Mizoram. Zoramthanga has been chief minister of Mizoram twice. He was a former underground leader and a close aide of the legendary MNF leader Laldenga.

Prominent winners and losers in Mizoram are as follows:

MNF President Zoramthanga: Aizawl East-I constituency: Won by defeating Independent candidate K. Sapdanga by 2504 votes.

BJP's Buddha Dhan Chakma: Tuichawng constituency: Won by defeating MNF's Rasik Mohan Chakma by 1,594 votes.

Zoram People's Movement (ZPM) President Lalduhoma: Serchhip constituency: Won by defeating outgoing Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla by 410 votes.

MNF's Robert Romawia Royte: Aizawl East-II constituency: Won by defeating Independent candidate B. Lalchhanzova by 1492 votes.

MNF's Lalrinliana Sailo: Chalfilh constituency: Won by defeating Independent candidate F. Rualhleia by 1007 votes.

MNF's T.J. Lalnuntluanga: Champai South constituency: Won by defeating outgoing Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla by 1,049 votes

MNF's Vanlalzawma: Aizawl West-III constituency: Lost to ZPM's V.L. Zaithanzama by 1026 votes.
