Rahul Gandhi releases Congress manifesto titled 'Will Deliver': Here's what experts have to say
Apr 2, 2019 5:35 AM

Congress president Rahul Gandhi released its manifesto titled 'Will Deliver' for the Lok Sabha elections 2019 on Tuesday. Addressing the media at the party's Akbar Road headquarters in New Delhi, Gandhi said, "When we started the process of making it, I pointed out that it should be truthful, there should not be a single lie and it should not be a closed-door process."

The Congress manifesto focuses on five key things - minimum income support for poor, job creation, women security, agrarian distress and healthcare.

Reacting to the manifesto, RP Singh

, spokesperson, BJP, said, “The manifesto says, ‘Hum Nibhayenge’. They were in power for 10 years, they could have done all this in those 10 years. They never implemented one of these during those 10 years, they never even thought of implementing goods and services tax (GST).”

On Nyay scheme, he said, “We are doing much more than what they are saying. Much more has been done and finance minister Arun Jaitley has categorically mentioned that.”

Shama Mohamed, spokesperson, Congress, said, “We lifted 145 million people out of poverty, we had an average gross domestic product (GDP) of 8.6 in the ten years, unemployment was not as high as right now – right now it is highest in the last 45 years. I don’t understand why they talk about false promises. The BJP promised 2 crore jobs, women security, a decrease in petrol prices, corruption-free India. But they did not keep the promises.”

Sanjay Singh, journalist, FirstPost, said the Congress believes this manifesto will help them to get back to power.

"The only problem is whether people believe that Congress is actually going to deliver the promises because they have been in power for 5-6 decades and is also in power now in some states and therefore people are going to judge on that basis," he said.
