Rajasthan Assembly polls 2023: BJP releases first list of 41 candidates, fields 7 MPs

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has fielded its seven parliamentarians for the Rajasthan Assembly elections 2023, as per the first list released on Monday, October 9. The party released the list of 41 candidates for the upcoming assembly polls, which includes Rajsamand MP Diya Kumari and Jaipur Rural MP Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore. While Diya Kumari will fight the elections from Jaipur's Vidhyadhar Nagar constituency, Rathore will be contesting from Jhotwara, also in Jaipur district.

Vidhyadhar Nagar seat is currently held by BJP MLA Narpat Singh Rajvi, a five-time MLA and son-in-law of former vice president Bhairon Singh Shekhawat.

The remaining 40 constituencies for which the BJP announced its candidates are held by the ruling Congress and other parties. Out of the 41 candidates, only three women candidates feature on the list, and 12 are incumbents from the 2018 assembly polls.

This list encompasses six Scheduled Caste (SC) and 10 Scheduled Tribe (ST) seats. Of the seven parliamentarians in the lineup, six belong to the Lok Sabha, while one, Kirodi Lal Meena is a Rajya Sabha member. The BJP's candidate roster includes Jhunjhunu MP Narendra Kumar, who will contest from Mandawa seat, Alwar MP Baba Balaknath from Tijara, Ajmer MP Bhagirath Choudhary from Kishangarh, Jalore MP Devji Patel from Sanchore, and Kirodi Lal Meena, who will be competing from the Sawai Madhopur constituency.

The list also include Vijay Bainsla, son of Gurjar leader late Kirodi Singh Bainsla, who will contest from Deoli-Uniara, and retired IAS officer Chandramohan Meena, who will run for the Bassi constituency. The BJP released this list shortly after the Election Commission announced the election schedule.

The assembly elections in the state will take place in a single phase on November 23. The counting of votes for the 200-member assembly will take place on December 3.
