Results of bypoll can't be extrapolated to 2019 general election: Business Standard
Mar 14, 2018 11:19 PM

There are a lot anticipations doing the rounds based on the results of the bypolls held in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.

The Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party alliance stumped the Bharatiya Janata Party in Uttar Pradesh. What was surprising is that SP emerged as the winner in Gorakhpur, Yogi Adityanath's hometown after three decades. Whereas, in Bihar, RJD retained the Araria Lok Sabha constituency.

Talking about its impact on the upcoming general elections, Aditi Phadnis, Political Editor at Business Standard said, "We will see more tumult in the days to come as the Karnataka election as well as the Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh (MP) elections take place. However, this will conclusively change or alter the outcome of the 2019 election, I fear nobody can say at this point".
