Smriti Irani dropped from I&B ministry in reshuffle of ministries

In a late night development, Modi government has announced a cabinet reshuffle.

Railways Minister Piyush Goyal has given the additional charge of Finance Ministry as Finance Minister Arun Jailtley underwent a kidney transplant earlier on Monday.

Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore has been made the new Information and Broadcasting Minister in place of Smriti Irani, while Irani will now handle only the Textiles portfolio.

Irani earlier was removed as the HRD Minister and was replaced by Prakash Javadekar.

S S Ahluwalia, Minister of State relieved of the charge of Ministry of Drinking Water & Sanitation and assigned the portfolio of Minister of State in the Ministry of Electronics & Information.

Alphons Kannanthanam was relieved of the charge of Minister of State in the Ministry of Electronics & InformationTechnology.

He continues as Minister of State for Tourism.

The National Hydrogen Mission (NHM) announced by the Centre last year is aimed at laying the roadmap for India to become a global leader in the production of hydrogen. The Centre will soon release the draft roadmap, consisting of the green hydrogen policy, as part of the first phase of the NHM. India aims to bring down the cost of green hydrogen to $1 (Rs 75) per kg through its push to the NHM and become energy independent.
