In the 2016 Assembly elections, Udhagamandalam was won by Ganesh, R. of INC.

Before that, in the 2011 elections, the seat was held by Budhichandhiran of ADMK.

In the 2016 assembly polls, Ganesh, R. garnered 67747 votes, securing over 48.34 percent of the vote share, and winning the seat by a margin of 10418 votes.

In percentage terms, the victory margin was 7.43 percent.

The constituency polled 140275 votes in the 2016 Tamil Nadu assembly polls with a voter turnout of 69.14 percent.

The Udhagamandalam constituency has a literacy level of 85.65 percent.
