China says suspension of visas for Indians 'a temporary action'
Nov 5, 2020 2:40 PM

The Chinese Embassy has said that its decision on suspending valid visas indicates that the measure is a temporary action.

China's move came after it suspended flights from India after 19 Indians tested positive on landing in Wuhan.

The notice by China indicates that future visa applications have not been banned. However, visas issued after November 3 are valid for travel to China.

That being said, China has implemented similar measures in respect of several other countries as well.

China's decision stems from a rise in COVID-19 cases globally aggravated due to the advent of autumn and winter in Northern Hemisphere.

"Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it is hereby announced that China has decided to temporarily suspend the entry into China by foreign nationals in India holding valid Chinese visas or residence permits," the embassy said in a note.

"China will make further adjustment and announcement with the ongoing pandemic situation in a timely manner," it added.

The proposed Vande Bharat Mission flight on 6th November has been rescheduled keeping the new developments in mind while India-China are holding discussions for a revised schedule.
