07:47 AM EDT, 07/22/2025 (MT Newswires) -- The White House is searching for partners to construct the Golden Dome missile defense system, marking a pivot away from SpaceX amid President Donald Trump's worsening relationship with its founder, Elon Musk, Reuters reported Tuesday, citing three sources familiar with the matter.
SpaceX, along with Palantir ( PLTR ) and Anduril were initially considered to be the frontrunners to win the lion's share of the $175 billion project when it was announced earlier this year. After Musk's fallout with Trump, the White House has begun courting Amazon.com's ( AMZN ) Project Kuiper, as well as big defense contractors, the news agency reported.
SpaceX is still expected to play a significant role in the project due to its size, track record of launches and experiences in government procurement, the sources reportedly told Reuters.
SpaceX did not immediately respond to a request for comment from MT Newswires.
