06:58 AM EDT, 10/15/2024 (MT Newswires) -- ViaSat ( VSAT ) said Tuesday it successfully demonstrated direct-to-device satellite connectivity in India after partnering with BSNL and others to expand satellite services for consumer and IoT devices globally.
In the trial, Viasat ( VSAT ) showed two-way messaging and SOS messaging using a commercial Android smartphone capable of non-terrestrial network connectivity.
The company added that messages were sent about 36,000 km to Viasat's ( VSAT ) geostationary L-band satellites, confirming the feasibility of satellite services for cell phone connectivity for Indian consumers and businesses.
