Walt Disney, Webtoon to Launch Digital Comics Platform; Disney to Buy 2% Stake in Webtoon

04:28 PM EDT, 09/15/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Walt Disney ( DIS ) and Webtoon Entertainment ( WBTN ) said Monday they have signed a non-binding term sheet to develop a digital comics platform.

The platform will have current comic book runs as well as past comics from Disney's ( DIS ) portfolio, the companies said, adding it will be built and operated by Webtoon.

The companies also said they signed a non-binding term sheet for Disney ( DIS ) to buy a 2% stake in Webtoon.

The planned stake purchase and the collaboration project are subject to Disney ( DIS ) and Webtoon entering into definitive agreements, the companies said.

Financial details were not provided.

Webtoon shares were up 76% in after-hours activity, and Disney ( DIS ) was down 0.3%.
